At ECO SHADES, materials are never an afterthought. They’re where everything begins. Each pair of sunglasses is developed using a carefully curated mix of recycled, plant-based, and high-performance components — chosen not just for sustainability, but for comfort, longevity, and feel.

Biodegradable Acetate

Used in our plant-based collection, this material is made from wood pulp and natural plasticizers — with no fossil-based plastic additives. It’s 100% biodegradable under the right conditions and offers the same structure, depth, and premium surface feel as traditional acetate. It’s durable, adjustable, and designed to age beautifully with use.

Recycled rPCTG

We use rPCTG in the fronts of many of our injected models. It’s a recycled plastic made from industrial and post-consumer waste. Strong, clear, and BPA-free, it gives the frame both flexibility and structure — with a smooth, high-quality finish that holds up over time.

Recycled TR90 (rTR)

TR90 is known in the optical world for being extremely lightweight, flexible, and resistant to deformation. We use recycled TR90 in select styles such as VORK and GROSSO — ideal for frames that need to feel light on the face while maintaining their shape.

Recycled CP (rCP)

All ECO SHADES temples — except in our biodegradable range — are made from recycled cellulose propionate. It’s soft to the touch, slightly rubbery, and easy to adjust. This creates a secure, comfortable fit that lasts all day.

100% Recycled Lenses (rPMMA)

All lenses in the ECO SHADES collection are made from 100% recycled rPMMA — a high-quality acrylic material. They offer full UV400 protection, crystal-clear vision, and excellent durability. Certified to international optical safety standards, they perform without compromise.

Stainless Steel Metal Cores

Inside each temple is a stainless steel core — invisible but essential. It adds structural strength and allows the temple to be adjusted for a perfect fit. While recycled steel isn’t yet stable enough for this use, we opt for regular stainless to ensure long-term quality.

Friction-Lock Screws

Our optical-grade 5-barrel hinges are secured using friction-lock screws. Each screw is fitted with a nylon patch to prevent loosening over time — no glue needed. It’s a small upgrade that keeps the hinge secure through daily use and wear.

Recycled Packaging

Our packaging is minimal, protective, and entirely made from recycled materials:

• Gift box: recycled cardboard

• Protective envelope: recycled plastic

• Soft pouch: recycled rPET

• Hangtag: recycled cardboard

We avoid excess. We avoid foam. Everything is built with intention — and can be recycled again.
