Materials with Purpose

Every part of an ECO SHADES frame is selected for its function. We work with recycled, plant-based, and technical materials that meet strict standards for strength, comfort, and durability.

rPMMA Lenses

All lenses are made from 100% recycled PMMA. They provide crystal-clear optical quality, are lightweight, and block 100% of UV rays (UV400 certified). Each lens is tested and certified to international safety standards.

rPCTG & rTR Frames

Injected models are produced from recycled plastics such as rPCTG and rTR. These materials are durable, flexible, and resistant to deformation, offering strength, adjustability, and a consistent finish across all frame shapes.

Biodegradable Acetate

Our bio-based collection uses acetate made from 62% plant-based content (wood pulp and natural plasticisers) and 38% fossil-based plastic. This material delivers the depth, structure, and premium feel associated with traditional acetate, while allowing for adjustability and long-term wear. Development is ongoing toward a 100% plant-based solution.

Engineered for Longevity

ECO SHADES sunglasses are built with long-term use in mind. By combining premium materials with durable construction methods, every component is selected to extend the lifespan of the sunglasses. With the right care and occasional service - such as tightening screws or adjusting the temples - ECO SHADES sunglasses are designed to remain reliable for many years.

Metal Core Temples

Each temple is reinforced with a hidden stainless steel core for strength and adjustability. Recycled stainless is not yet stable enough for this application, so we use standard stainless steel to ensure long-term quality.

Optical-Grade Hinges

Frames are fitted with high-precision 5-barrel optical hinges, the same type used in premium prescription eyewear. They ensure a balanced fit and reliable performance.

Friction-Lock Screws

Each screw includes a nylon patch for friction-locking, preventing loosening over time without adhesives. This detail keeps the hinge secure through repeated use.

Recycled Packaging

Packaging is designed to be minimal and functional, using only recycled materials:

• Gift box: recycled cardboard and paper

• Protective envelope: recycled EVA

• Soft pouch: recycled rPET

• Hangtags: recycled cardboard
